why chose the pop rocks! program

What makes this program great?

Painless Practice

Say goodbye to practice battles at home. Pop Rocks makes students want to pick up their instrument. Because the songs are fun, modern, and skill-focused, kids stay motivated, improve faster, and feel proud showing off what they can play.

Fast Musical Growth

In Pop Rocks, kids don’t just learn songs — they build real musical skills. Playing together helps them develop rhythm, confidence, and ear training faster than with 1-on-1 lessons alone. These skills carry over into every aspect of their musical journey.

Learn Music You Love

Every student has unique goals, and Pop Rocks meets them where they are. Whether your child is a complete beginner or already playing, they’ll get the right mix of challenge and encouragement to keep growing — without ever feeling left behind.

A Vibrant Musical Community

Music is better when shared. In Pop Rocks, kids gain friendships, teamwork skills, and the joy of playing in a real band. They see that they’re not alone in the learning process — and together, they build confidence on and off the stage.

How Pop Rocks Works

Here's what a Pop Rocks session looks like:

  • 🏋️‍♀️ Warm Up - Quick and fun exercises to build musical skills on each instrument.

  • 🎧 Solo Practice - Dedicated time on the students instrument of choice or one of the other rock band instruments. Students wear headphones to for best concentration.

  • 🎶 Band Practice - Students collaborate on a song to form good musical intuition.

  • 🎲 Games - We end each class with trivia or a music challenge!

FAQ section

Frequently asked questions

You've got questions. We've got answers.

Does my child need to have experience to join?

Not at all! Beginners can jump right in. I design Pop Rocks so that every student — whether they’re just starting out or already playing — has music that’s fun, achievable, and challenging enough to help them grow.

What age group is Pop Rocks for?

The program is designed for motivated students ages 7 and up. Younger students are welcome following a consultation with me to assess their maturity and ability to focus in the group setting.

How is this different from private lessons?

Private lessons focus on one skill at a time, while Pop Rocks puts those skills into action in a band setting. Students still learn technique, reading, and theory, but they also build rhythm, teamwork, and performance confidence that are hard to get in 1-on-1 lessons.

Will my child still get individual attention?

Yes! Even though it’s a group class, I keep the size small enough that I can give each student personalized coaching. Every child gets feedback and guidance tailored to their needs.

How do you handle practice at home?

Students leave each class already confident in what to practice. Because we rehearse the songs multiple times together in class, they know exactly how each part should sound and feel. That way, home practice isn’t confusing — it’s just reinforcing what they already know, which makes them more excited to play on their own.

Do you offer recitals or performance opportunities?

Yes! I host at least one end of year recital in the spring, and often a winter recital midyear.
On top of formal recitals, I host virtual recitals once a semester to give students experience recording their performance at home to share during the virtual session.
